●2021年10月8日、Shannon Layはニュー・アルバム『Geist』をSub Popよりリリースする。Layは、WoodsのJarvis Tavinereのスタジオでアルバムのヴォーカルとギターをレコーディングし、それをロサンゼルスのBen Boye（Bonnie Prince Billy、Ty Segall）とニューヨークのDevin Hoff（Sharon Van Etten、Cibo Matto）に送付。二人のマルチインストゥルメンタリストの音楽的本能と直感を頼りとした。その後、Sofia Arreguin（Wand）とAaron Otheim（Heatwarmer、Mega Bog）により追加のキーボードが加えられ、Ty Segallが「Shores」のギター・ソロをプレイ。神秘的でありながらアクセスしやすいアルバム『Geist』が完成した。Syd Barrettのカヴァー「Late Night」から、ほぼアカペラの「Awaken and Allow」まで、曲は多岐にわたる。アルバムから最初に公開された「Rare to Wake」はPitchforkでベスト・ニュー・トラックを獲得した。
●Shannon Layは米ロサンジェルスをベースに活動するミュージシャンだ。2017年2月、Do Not Disturb Recordsよりファースト・アルバム『All This Life Goin Down』、同年9月にWoodsistよりセカンド・アルバム『Living Water』をリリース。『Living Water』はPitchfork等から絶賛された。2019年8月にはSub Popからは初となるサード・アルバム『August』をリリース。このアルバムのレコーディングはTy Segallとおこなわれ、ミックスはMikal Croninが担当した。また、Shannon Layはインディ・ロック・バンド、Feelsのギタリスト／シンガーとしても活動。2019年2月にWichita RecordingsよりリリースされたFeelsのセカンド・アルバム『Post Earth』は高い評価を得ている。加えて、Layは、Ty SegallのFreedom Bandのメンバーとしてショーも行っている。
