Dr. DementoことBarry Hansenは、50年近くもラジオ・ショーを通して音楽にかかわってきた。彼は、1970年代から80年代にかけて、自身のショーでコミック・ソングやその他の奇妙な音楽をオンエア。コメディアンやミュージシャンに賞賛され、90年代までにはアイコンとなり、現在でも彼のショーはストリーミング形式で続いている。2枚組となる当アルバム『Dr. Demento Covered In Punk』は、まるでDr. Dementoのショーのエピソードのようなつくりとなっている。パンク・ロック・ミュージシャンで、フィルム・プロデューサーでもあるJohn Cafieroがアルバムをまとめ上げたが、カヴァー曲や、それを演奏しているバンドの詳細を伝えるDJの役割をDr. Dementoが担っているのだ。Osaka Popstar、Barnes & Barnes、Balzac、Shonen Knife、Joan Jett & The Blackhearts、The Vandals、Missing Persons、Misfits等が参加。
