●現在までにリリースした2枚のEPと1枚のアルバムが大きな話題を呼んだニュージャージーの5人組インディ・バンド、Forth Wanderer。彼らが、2014年のデビュー・アルバム『Tough Love』より約4年振りとなるセカンド・アルバム『Forth Wanderers』をSub Popよりリリースする。
●Forth Wanderersは2013年、ニュージャージー州モントクレアの高校時代よりスタートした。ギタリストでソングライターのBen GuterlとヴォーカルのAva Trillingは文通をするかのように曲のやり取りをしていた。Ben Guterlがまず楽器で曲の骨子を作り、そのメロディをベースにAva Trillingが歌詞を書く。その後、ギターのDuke Greene、ベースのNoah Schifrin、ドラムのZach Lorelliを集めて、出来上がった曲のデモを広げていくのだ。これは、2枚のEP（2013年の『Mahogany』と2016年の『Slop』）と1枚のLP（2014年の『Tough Love』）の時から継続して行われてきたやり方だ。現在、Ben GuterlとAva Trillingはそれぞれオハイオとニューヨークに別々に住んでいるが、今作において、その協調的な曲の書き方をより進化させた。「私が詞を書くことができる唯一の方法は、曲を何度も何度も聴きながらノートを持って部屋に籠ることなの。けど、物語を書く為にじっと座っていることはないは。私は展開できるように曲を書くの」とAva Trillingは語る。しばし、彼女の詞は実生活と強く結びついているので、私的な執筆作業は激しい自己反映にもなっているのだ。当アルバム『Forth Wanderers』はバンドの友人でもあるエンジニア、Cameron Konnerのフィラデルフィアにあるホーム・スタジオで5日間でレコーディングされた。ここに収録された10曲では、過去の作品の持つ心がこもった感情が、より大きなアンセムへと昇華されている。Ben GuterlとDuke Greeneのギターに嘘はなく、Noah SchifrinとZach Lorelliのリズム隊は止まることはない。そしてAva Trillingはこれまで以上に自信を持っている。密接に絡み合ったメロディーと細部までに注意を払った深い愛情によって動かされる華麗で深淵な楽曲が詰まったアルバムなのだ。

Forth WanderersはPavement、Mac Demarco、Built To Spill、Weezerといったバンドを想起させるエモーショナルなインディ・ロック・バンドだ。2013年、ニュージャージー州モントクレアにてバンド結成。メンバーはBen Guterl（Guitar and Vocals）、Ava Trilling（Vocals）、Duke Greene（Guitar）、Noah Schifrin（Bass）、Zach Lorelli（Drums）の5人。EP『Mahogany』（Seagreen Records）を経て、2014年にデビュー・アルバム『Tough Love』を自主リリース。2016年にはEP『Slop』をFather/Daughter Recordsよりリリースしている。
